Ctenosaura bakeri is found exclusively on the small island of Utila, one of the Bay Islands, 30 km off the coast of Honduras. Utila is the only island in the world that supports three native species of iguana, C. bakeri, C. similis (the Black Spiny-tailed Iguana), and Iguana iguana, the Green Iguana. While the latter are found in upland forests, C. similis occupy more open areas along forest edges and on rock piles, even adapting well to heavily disturbed habitat. The Utila Iguana, known locally as the "Swamper" is restricted to three separate mangrove areas covering a total of about 10 km2 at Big Bight Pond, Blue Bayou and Iron Bound.
