WHO'S INVOLVED

The Blue Iguana Recovery Program is a partnership of local and international conservation
groups, that share a commitment to ensure the survival of the Grand Cayman Blue Iguana.

PARTNERS

NATIONAL TRUST for the CAYMAN ISLANDS has supported conservation efforts for the Blue Iguana since 1990. Fred Burton, Director of the Captive Breeding Facility on Grand Cayman, has been working with the Trust to generate international support. A meeting of the IUCN-Iguana Specialist Group held in 2001 resulted in the creation of the Blue Iguana Recovery Plan. The substantially reduced wild population of Blue Iguanas reported in that survey served to reinforce the need for urgency in executing the measures outlined in the plan.

INT'L REPTILE CONSERVATION FOUNDATION (IRCF)    The mission of the International Reptile Conservation Foundation, Inc. is to help ensure the survival of the Blue Iguanas and their habitat through conservation, education, and the support of scientific programs dedicated to the survival of the species. The IRCF contributes support in a variety of capacities to conservation and research programs worldwide, and promotes conservation awareness in schools, at special events, conventions, on television, in publication and through several websites.
